Hi all - so I'm moving to SF this weekend and start a new job next Monday.  My hair is out of control and I need to get something done.  Any recommendations on hair salons that can possibly take me this week???   A bigger plus if the hairstylist knows how to handle thick, Asian hair.

Well while you're still in San Jose for one more week, try hair.com in milpitas- ask for harry. don't let the name of the salon fool you, it is kinda cheesy, but harry has awesome training... they're also not too expensive which is nice...

In San Jose..  TG which is right next to Fairmont Hotel down town.  Ask for Norma, she's done some fabulous things with my crazy hair.

Neo Salon in Burlingame. Either ask for Vickie or Jose they are the owners.    It's kind of upscale but you won't be disappointed.

I know that you originally asked about salons in San Francisco, and unfortunately I have no clue, but if you're willing to drive or will be near San Jose, Ego Mechanix (ask for Joanne) does a great job, and makes sure that you're happy with what's being done while she cuts. The salon also has a good reputation for VERY happy customers. :) I just had my hair done there, and I love what was done!

Color Box on Church and 17th Street, San Francisco.  I have pretty thick hair (and I'm Chinese) which is great but can get unruly and heavy at times.  Michelle and Nancy are funny and talented.  You'll feel like you're in someone's retro kitchen.  Not sure if you can get in this weekend but you aim for Friday, that shouldn't be a problem.   Their prices are reasonable too, about $55 for a cut. If you can, bring a picture; it helps tremendously.  Good luck!

I totally recommend Pastel Hair Salon.  Any of the stylists are good, but I really like Eva and Debbie (owner).  I have very very thick/course asian hair, and they have always done wonders.

My friend Dara is really dope.  She's been doing my hair for over 4 years and I always love it.  If you can get in with her she's at Anthony Paez in Willow Glen.  You won't regret it.

I really like Glam-Up. I get my cut from Maiko, who is the owner of the salon, and she "specializes" in Asian hair.

Try Elana @ The Salon (16th & Guerrero).  She chopped my thick Asian hair off, and I'm happy with the result.
