In 2 weeks I'm headed to Seattle with my parents, with whom I get along very well. There are a lot things we want to do and see, primarily "tourist" stuff, but we also would like some off the beaten track/can't-be-missed-whil e-you're-here ideas.
Are there any breweries/wineries within the city that are exceptional?
What about restaurants or shows (theatre/comedy/etc) or exhibits?
Thanks!

If cost isn't too much of a problem, do brunch on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. There's a stop at the Columbia Winery with a tour and wine tasting. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Also if cost doesn't get in the way, the Blake Island/Tillicum Village boat tour/dinner/show is a great Northwest Experience http://www.yelp.com/bi...
You're also in luck with your timing because all of April is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Just a couple of hours from Seattle - hundreds of acres of tulips, tours, events in the towns, etc. Gorgeous http://www.yelp.com/bi...
If you're renting a car while you're here, Vashon Island is a short ferry ride from Seattle - a bucolic, artsy place with some great views http://www.yelp.com/li...
The Center for Wooden Boats is fun to visit and they have free boat rides on Sundays http://www.yelp.com/bi...
If you like free, Pike & Western Wine Merchants in the Pike Place Market has a free wine tasting from 3 to 6 on Fridays. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Reviews are mixed, but if you don't mind a trapeze artist in a restaurant, the Pink Door can be fun, and the food is good http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Then there's the Frye Art Museum, a lesser known gem with free admission http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Have fun!

Off the beaten path:

The ballard locks are not in the city, but can be a good excursion.
Buses are FREE downtown if you are staying in the area. You can easily fill two days between the pike place market and pioneer square. Seattle now has these folks on bicycles with bright yellow jackets who help people downtown. If you need help or advice while out, ask them. They have maps and advice for tourists. They also try to keep the pan handlers away from the store fronts.
Have fun.

Some really great ideas--thanks!
Any chance there is a 1/2 price or discount ticket websites for Seattle, like www.goldstarevents.com or www.hottix.org?

Sometimes you can get half price day of show tickets if you go to one of the actual locations, one of which is in the Pike Place Market.

Sarah,
For a true Seattle dining experience, take yourself to Union Restuarant at 1st and Union! I was there this past weekend (visiting from San Francisco) and had a great experience. It would probably be a "nice" meal out for the weekend, and definitely worth the splurge. Have fun!
